What to Take with You to College? 8 Things to Remember When Moving from Boston to Norfolk

Going to college and the accompanying move from Boston to Norfolk is an important moment in a person’s life that is very difficult to concentrate on. What things should I bring with me to make the first few months in a dorm or new apartment pleasant and carefree?

1. Small kitchen appliances

In the first few months, and often years, freshmen rarely take on the task of cooking full-fledged meals. Much more often it is simple compositions, such as rice with chicken and vegetables, an omelet, or a simple soup. Therefore, small appliances come in handy while studying after moving from Boston to Norfolk.

Consider buying a sandwich maker, which is inexpensive and can be used to quickly make nutritious, warm toast. It would also be nice to take a small hand blender, with which you can at any time mix any fruit and make a delicious smoothie. You’ll definitely need a small electric kettle to boil water for coffee or tea.

2 Kitchen accessories

We’ve already mentioned kitchen appliances that can come in handy in a student apartment. However, don’t forget to bring basic kitchen utensils. Two different sized pots, a frying pan with a lid, a small and a large knife, plates, cups, and cutlery will come in handy.

3. A table lamp

Rental apartments or dorms usually have basic furniture, so you don’t need to bring a bed, closet, or desk. However, a table lamp is worth considering for purchase. Good lighting will work especially well in the winter when evenings are long and you’ll be spending a lot of time with books before the session.

4. Work chair

During your studies, and especially before a session, you will spend a lot of time sitting at your desk. Before moving from Boston to Norfolk, check whether your desk has a comfortable chair or a regular kitchen chair. If the latter, take care of your spine and bring a comfortable, ergonomic, adjustable work chair.

5. Linens

In apartments or rooms that are rented to students, you are sure to find a bed. However, don’t forget to bring a full set of bedding and pillowcases. However, before you buy them, find out the size of the bed in your room so you can choose the right sheets. If you live in a dormitory, you can bring your own bedding and pillowcases, but you do not have to. Dorms very often provide students with bedding and allow you to change your pillowcases for clean ones on a regular basis.

6. Thermocup

The list of things you need to study should also include a thick thermocup in which you pour hot coffee and take it to class. Remember, taking your coffee with you, rather than buying it at the coffee shop in a disposable cup, is both more environmentally friendly and much cheaper.

7. Bathroom accessories

Don’t forget practical bathroom accessories. Bring some towels, a soft mat to put your feet on when you get out of the shower, or a hook to attach to the tile where you will hang your towel. Put all the makeup you need in your bag and don’t forget your basic hygiene products.

8. Flower in a pot

When making a list of things we need for traveling from Boston to Norfolk, we often forget about jewelry! Dormitories or apartments for students are very often austere and devoid of any accessories. That’s why it’s a good idea to bring a small potted flower or a few framed photos.

Do you already know what to bring with you when you travel from Boston to Norfolk and enroll in college? Everyone’s list of items will be a little different, but perhaps our tips will help you remember things that weren’t obvious to you.
